Many people over 50 simply cannot live without their luxury cars despite the vehicles becoming much more technologically advanced and digitized than ever before. It just so happens that the Mercedes-Benz remains one of the most popular choices for car enthusiasts aged 50 and older.

But along with these expensive rides comes a new learning curve. These cars are “smart” and can even parallel park themselves. In some cases, the cars have autonomous capabilities, meaning they can drive themselves while a person who’s been in total control of their driving experience for their entire adult life, must now get used to entrusting their lives to a self-driving vehicle.

There are also added costs to owning a Mercedes besides the typical routine maintenance, detailing, collision repairs, and more. One of the more costly Mercedes items has nothing to do with repairs, but everything to do with an absent-minded owner. That is, losing your smart Mercedes ignition key.

Say the experts, being the owner of a dream luxury car is one of the best experiences life can offer. It’s an especially proud experience when that automobile is a brand new Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes has always translated not only into elegance and exceptional engineering, but also personal success. Simply said, Mercedes automobiles are designed like no other.

The evidence for this comes in the form of the ignition key. It’s not at all like other car keys. In 2021 it is equipped with security enhancements that ensure the safety of your luxury car. For anyone 50 and older, it’s a technology that can take some getting used to.

However, one of the most common difficulties encountered by these proud Mercedes owners is losing their smart key. The major problem with losing your Mercedeskey? It’s very expensive to replace it.

But there are ways to get around the enormous expense of purchasing a brand new ignition key. That said, here are some of the cheapest ways to replace a Mercedes key.

Amazon

Is there anything the Amazon eCommerce platform doesn’t sell? The giant company also sells accessories for cars. Just go to a dedicated area on the website called “My Garage,” and you’ll more than likely get what you are searching for, including a replacement Mercedes key.

The ignition key will be uncut and unprogrammed. You might also need to purchase a remote key that will lock and unlock the doors and trunk. More modern keys will combine both ignitions with door locking capabilities. You also need to make sure you are buying the specific key for the make and model of your Mercedes Benz

The problems associated with buying a key off of Amazon? It takes time for it to be delivered and you’ll likely need to bring it to the dealership to get it programmed. The latter can cost you a few bucks.

Mobile Locksmith

Calling a reputable mobile locksmith is quite possibly the cheapest way to replace a Mercedes key. It is also the most efficient. Even if you’ve already purchased your key off of Amazon, you need to have it programmed, and a mobile locksmith is capable of doing this for you.

If you’ve lost all your Mercedes keys, a reputable mobile locksmith who specializes in Mercedes Benz automobiles will come to your house and work the problem, getting you back on the road within a few hour’s time. They can supply you with the right key, cut it to your car’s specifications, and code it.

Mercedes engineers were some of the first to develop electronic locking devices for their cars, making them more secure. That’s why going with a mobile locksmith who specializes in Mercedes cars is crucial. They are trained to handle any car key problem they encounter.

Code Your Own Key

While it is technically possible to code your own Mercedes replacement key, you must be adept at comprehending the complexities and technicalities of the programming process. In a word, it ain’t easy for anyone who has difficulty grasping new luxury car tech. Programming a key is said to be very complicated even for the younger generation who grew up in the Digi sphere.

Also, you can only program the older model “flip” Mercedes keys on your own. If you possess a new “smart” key, you have no choice but to use a mobile locksmith or bring the replacement key to the dealer to have it programmed.

Replacement keys for Mercedes cars are spare keys, not masters. Once the key is reprogrammed you can never reprogram it for a second or third car. Keep in mind, master keys cannot be programmed on your own. You will need to contact a locksmith or the dealer for a brand new master key.

If you cannot make contact with a reputable mobile locksmith, and/or you find you cannot reprogram the key by yourself, then you will have no choice but to get to the dealership that will provide you with a brand new master. Make no doubt about it, this is a rather expensive process. But it is also the most secure option.
