Spa Day

If you like the rest of the world and stuck in your home with nothing to do, LivingBetter50 has the solution. For women over 50 like us looking for something to do, why not have a stay at home spa day! It may not be as luxurious as heading off to your favorite spa, but since you have the time on your hands!

So as you plan your in-home spa day, pick ingredients that you can easily find in your home and perform by yourself. Here are 6 spa treatments that you can do for yourself during this quarantine.

Firstly set the mood

Put on some calming music with your Amazon music membership or a youtube rainforest playlist. Create the perfect spa scent while you get things ready. Lavender essential oil is great for relaxing, but nothing smells more like a spa than eucalyptus! I like to use my diffuser, but candles create such nice lighting, too. If you go with a candle, choose one that utilizes essential oils for its scent, like this one. Or you can make your own candle using the essential oils.

Anti-Aging Hand Mask

Along with the skin on your face, the skin on the backs of our hands will reveal significant signs of aging. This simple, all-natural mixture you can make at home in minutes will have your hands feeling softer and looking more youthful in no time.

Mix honey, yogurt, and kelp powder together in a small bowl with equal quantities. Apply the mixture to the back of your hands and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. Wipe the mixture off after the 10 minutes gently using a warm washcloth. You can make this part of your weekly routine to help keep your skin moisturized and to ward off fine lines!

Paint Your Nails

Now that you have younger-looking hands, paint your nails with the latest spring colors. Painting your nails a creamy pastel purple or a vibrant hot pink instantly lifts my mood after months of avoiding the cold, as I binge-watch TV shows on this quarantine!

Multi-Step Facial

Start your facial with a steaming. Place some Tea tree and Eucalyptus Essential oil drops in a bowl of boiling water. Lean over the bowl and use a towel to trap the steam in. The steam will open and clean out your skin’s pores. This treatment is great for acne-prone skin and leaves your face feeling clean and refreshed!

With your skin’s pores open, it is now a great time to feed your skin with moisture. Applying a face mask is one of my favorite at-home spa treatments. A Yogurt & Honey Face Mask leaves my skin soft, moisturized, and it makes applying makeup easier because it plumps the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles!

Since everyone’s skin is different, so consider which recipe works best for you and your skin type. Here is a recipe of my favorite Yoghurt & Honey face mask;

  • 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • Dash of ground cinnamon
  • Dash of ground nutmeg

Mix in cup or bowl and apply it to your face. It might tingle just a bit at first, that just tells you it’s working. Leave on for 7 to 10 minutes and wash off with warm water.

Yogurt contains lactic acid which gently exfoliates dead skin cells, brightening your complexion. The probiotics are also great for healing any skin blemishes. Honey naturally hydrates the skin and is rich in antioxidants. Cinnamon warms the skin bringing fresh, oxygen-rich blood to the surface to kill bacteria and detoxify the skin. Nutmeg plumps and firms the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Foot Soak

A foot soak is the perfect treatment with you stuck at home and nowhere to go. You can even set up a foot bath at your desk or at a table while you work from home or doing something other chores.

Our feet excrete more toxins than any other part of your body. Epsom salt is made up of magnesium and sulfate, and these minerals can be absorbed through your skin. Magnesium, in particular, can help reduce pain and inflammation. Combine Epsom salt with a little baking soda for exfoliating and odor control, and you have a simple and effective foot soak that’s a treat for feet!

So while you can not get out the house, you can certainly pamper yourself and feet better before the quarantine is over!
