Daily Devotional – Victorious By Learning From the Past

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 Corinthians 10:6-13. The height of insanity is repeating the same mistakes and not learning from the past. If our selfish ways have caused us strife and destruction before, they will most likely do that the next time we follow their lead.

“Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.”[a] We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. We should not test Christ,[b] as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel.

11 These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! 13 No temptation[c] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[d] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted,[e] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

Will we learn our lesson from Israel’s example?

The people and leaders of Israel chose to follow the same cycle over and over again. They would sin. God would rebuke them only for them to repent. They would then rinse and repeat the cycle over and over again throughout the Old Testament.

While we have been saved by grace and forgiven 100%, we should live a life worthy of His testimony. So many in the Christian world always talk about those that backslide. Let us not be worried about the sin but rather worry about our hearts and the love that we have for Jesus.

How can we love someone that we choose to disrespect? Live a life worthy of Jesus for the testimony of how good He is and how much you love Him. Let us learn from our past and bring glory to the Father. May the light that I shine grow brighter each day.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You died and forgave me of all my sins. I love You and desire to bring You glory rather than experience the temporary benefits of sin. Help me by Your Holy Spirit to live a more and more holy life for You and Your glory!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
