Daily Devotional – Victory Through Praise

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Exodus 17:8-16. God in the heavens alone is worthy and deserving of our praise and worship. As we step aside from the limelight and gaze upon God, we gain perspective about what truly is important!

“The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua, “Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”

10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. 12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. 13 So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.

14 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”

15 Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner. 16 He said, “Because hands were lifted up against[c] the throne of the Lord,[d] the Lord will be at war against the Amalekites from generation to generation.”

Praise – This is how we overcome!

It is so easy to become consumed and focused on all the challenges and problems in life. Facing you, right where you are in the battle. Our enemy brings it right to where you are! As we are overcome with the fight, we become bitter and angry people.

It is time to praise and worship Jesus. It is time to raise your hands heavenward and enter the courts of the Almighty King with praise and thanksgiving!

While Moses’ hands were raised, Israel conquered the Amalekites, but as soon as his weary hands dropped, so did their fortunes. This scripture is a great reminder that our focus and attention need to constantly be on the face of Jesus. As soon as we lose sight of His face, we will start to be focused on things that distract us. We will start to live for earthly things and not allow God’s love to flow through us.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that as You are seated on the throne in heaven, that I can approach You. I do so right now with thanksgiving for my salvation and Your love. Help me to focus on You and let You work through my hands and feet for Your glory.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
