Daily Devotional – Turn to God With All Your Heart
Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Joel 2:12-17. Believing is beautiful, but repentance is less glamorous. Yet, right out of the gate, Jesus’ ministry began with a call for us to repent of our sin and believe He came to save us.
“Even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
13 Rend your heart
and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and abounding in love,
and he relents from sending calamity.
14 Who knows? He may turn and relent
and leave behind a blessing—
grain offerings and drink offerings
for the Lord your God.
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion,
declare a holy fast,
call a sacred assembly.
16 Gather the people,
consecrate the assembly;
bring together the elders,
gather the children,
those nursing at the breast.
Let the bridegroom leave his room
and the bride her chamber.
17 Let the priests, who minister before the Lord,
weep between the portico and the altar.
Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord.
Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,
a byword among the nations.
Why should they say among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?’”
Rend Your Heart!
There is nothing worse than someone’s fake and hollow words. There is something about words and actions that ring with sarcasm rather than earnestness. God has never called us to be perfect in anything other than our dedication and commitment to Him.
The Bible is full of occasions where God’s wrath and scorn have been suspended by the repentance of His children. There is one promise that remains true, honestly and earnestly turn toward God in repentance and He will hear your cries.
God is committed to hearing and answering our prayers and request for forgiveness. He took the first step in it all by sending Jesus. Let us remember that while we still have breath, there is an opportunity for redemption. Call out to God today for forgiveness.
Let’s Pray
Dear Father,
Thank you Father that You took the first step to commit to forgiving us Your children. If You wouldn’t hold back even Jesus, then why would You condemn us if we ask. Forgive me and draw nearer as I seek Your face today!
