Daily Devotional – The Animals Stood and Stared

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 95: 1 -7. The animals had been confined to the stables before, but with the birth of Jesus, they were drawn towards the stable in awe. The stood and stared at their creator, helplessly lying in their manger as a baby!

Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
    let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before him with thanksgiving
    and extol him with music and song.

For the Lord is the great God,
    the great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth,
    and the mountain peaks belong to him.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.

fall scents for your home

Come, let us bow down in worship,
    let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
for he is our God
    and we are the people of his pasture,
    the flock under his care.

Animals are usually restrained and controlled in the stable. They do not have a choice as to where they will be or go. We have domesticated and trained them to do as they are told. Before the birth of Jesus, the animals in the stable would have reluctantly stood there in obedience.

However, I believe that once they saw Jesus was born, and lay His head in the manger, the animals would have been drawn in amazement. Like a moth to the flame, the animals would have been attracted to their creator.

Does the advent season catch your attention? Do you allow yourself to be drawn in and just stare at the wonder? Consider for a moment, that God, the creator humbly left His throne in heaven and assumed our flesh to walk this earth. I am as amazed by the actions and sacrifice of God, and join the animals staring toward the baby Jesus in the manger!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, for coming to earth as a baby. You lay in the manger so innocent and helpless. Help me not to forget the miracle of your birth and what it means for the bigger picture.

In Jesus name
Amen
