Daily Devotional – The 9th Day of Christ-mas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 2:1-7. God the Father chose the man that would nurture and care for His son upon the earth. A strong man, a carpenter, but a servant-hearted leader. Joseph expressed his love through serving Jesus.

“In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. (This was the first census that took place while[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria.) And everyone went to their own town to register.

So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.”

Love each other with servant’s hearts

Jesus came to earth to turn it upside down. To lead, Jesus said that we should serve. To be first, we should be willing to be last. His earthly father Joseph is such a great example of one that puts his own desires and needs to the side. He sacrificed his pride for his child and savior.

In all the interactions that we read of Joseph, a character of submission and obedience is evident. Joseph served Mary and Jesus from the shadows. Burdening the challenges and difficulties of life, he led through obedience to God Almighty.

Let us consider the servanthood attitude of Joseph and cloak ourselves in a similar attitude. Let us lead and serve those around us this Christ-mas season for the glory and honor of our savior.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You revealed Your heart and character through Joseph. Help me to lead and serve others as unto You and Jesus. Be glorified today as I share Your love and serve those that Jesus came to die for.

In Your Name,

Amen
