Daily Devotional – 10th Day of Christ-mas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 19:25-27. Jesus lay quietly and vulnerably in the manger. Mary his earthly mother caringly sat by His side taking care of her Lord. Mary would find herself caring for her son at another pivotal time of His time on earth.

“Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[b] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.”

Mary was by Jesus’ side at His birth and death

There is nothing quite like a mother’s love. God certainly created women with the tenderness and love that would sustain and nourish the soul of her children. The embrace of a mother gives security and comfort to the child who feels protected at the very moment.

Jesus reciprocated the love that Mary had given Him for all the time that He walked the earth. In the same way, Jesus is compassionate and loving towards us. He provides and leads us with a pure love that seeks to provide the best for His church.

Let us celebrate the love that Mary offered Jesus from the time that the Holy Spirit conceived Him. Then let us take the opportunity to love those around us with the pure love of Jesus.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you for choosing Mary to bear Jesus and fulfill the role as His mother. Thank you too for choosing me to be Your child and member of the church.

In Your Name,

Amen
