Daily Devotional – The 7th Day of Christ-mas

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 2:4-12. The kings studied the prophecies and spotted the star of Bethlehem. They traveled from far to find the King of all kings.

“When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:

“‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
    are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
    who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]

Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”

After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.”

What gift to bring to the one who holds it all?

I am sure that the kings that traveled and followed the star all the way to Bethlehem did so for personal reasons. Many kings of that day and today try to gain an advantage through treaties and alliances.

What better alliance than with the King of all kings. When you face enemies and challenges, there is no one better to have standing behind you than the Almighty God! Despite the reasoning or motive, the kings came to worship their creator in the manger.

It is often said that words are cheap. Action costs far more and carries far more weight. Let us consider the acts of the 3 wise men and weigh up our own actions. Let us bring our worship and gifts before the son of God who alone is worthy!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Jesus is most certainly worthy of all of our praise and worship. Thank You for sending Your only son so that we may see and experience our savior’s love. Receive my worship and praise today and every day of my life.

In Your Name,

Amen
