Daily Devotional – Thankful for Grace

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Jeremiah 5:18-25. Grace is unmerited favor according to Paul. When God treats us better than we deserve, giving us salvation and redemption with us doing nothing to earn it, we have received grace!

“Yet even in those days,” declares the Lord, “I will not destroy you completely. 19 And when the people ask, ‘Why has the Lord our God done all this to us?’ you will tell them, ‘As you have forsaken me and served foreign gods in your own land, so now you will serve foreigners in a land not your own.’

20 “Announce this to the descendants of Jacob
    and proclaim it in Judah:
21 Hear this, you foolish and senseless people,
    who have eyes but do not see,
    who have ears but do not hear:
22 Should you not fear me?” declares the Lord.
    “Should you not tremble in my presence?
I made the sand a boundary for the sea,
    an everlasting barrier it cannot cross.
The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;
    they may roar, but they cannot cross it.
23 But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts;
    they have turned aside and gone away.
24 They do not say to themselves,
    ‘Let us fear the Lord our God,
who gives autumn and spring rains in season,
    who assures us of the regular weeks of harvest.’
25 Your wrongdoings have kept these away;
    your sins have deprived you of good.”

Thankfully we have grace, we could never earn our salvation

So often we forget that we have received all that we have from God because of His grace. We have favor from the throne of the Almighty God that has offered us 100% freedom because He has chosen to offer it. There is nothing that we did to bring ourselves into existence, and in the same way, there is nothing that we can do to earn grace!

Grace is birthed from love. God who created you in great love has extended grace so that we can re-enter a loving relationship with our Father.

Grace only requires that we accept it. In a world that etches the message that “you have what you worked for” we so easily overlook grace. Why would someone actually offer me grace?

Let us consider how much it cost God to offer us freedom and grace. Then let us receive it out of respect and honor!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

You sacrificed so much so that I could receive Your salvation. While you have graciously offered me freedom, it wasn’t free for You. May my life live out Your love and purpose so that You receive glory and honor!

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
