Daily Devotional – Strength in Numbers

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Acts 2:42-47. The bride of Christ has changed it’s form many times over the years. Leaders rise and fall directing the manner in which the church operates and prepares itself for Jesus.

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

The modern church doesn’t resemble the early church

Do you recall a member of your church stood before everyone on a Sunday morning saying that they had sold everything? I’m not referring to missionaries who plan to move to a foreign land. Imagine that this couple stood there and told the church about them selling their Million Dollar house so that they could buy 5 families of the church a house to live in.

I know what would be the first thing out of the members’ mouths. “That is not a very wise thing to do. Where are you going to live?

When was the last time that you came together with fellow members of the church for consecutive days? Do you find yourself craving the fellowship and time of studying the scriptures and word of God with others? If we come together with the common desire of experiencing God and preparing ourselves as Jesus’ bride, then we will see many wonders.

I struggle to remember the last time I witnessed a great “wonder and sign” during a church service? I have to wonder if God’s people even want to meet Him because where God is, there are signs and wonders.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have given us Your church for strength. You have told us to come together in Your name for safety and encouragement. Help me to make every day one that I get to experience Your presence and help others in Your church.

In Jesus Name,
