Daily Devotional – Each One a Priest

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 1 Peter 2:4-7. Jesus is the cornerstone that God is building His church around. Like Jesus, each one of us is a living stone, making up the church!

As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house[a] to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For in Scripture it says:

“See, I lay a stone in Zion,
    a chosen and precious cornerstone,
and the one who trusts in him
will never be put to shame.”[b]

Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,

“The stone the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone,”

Each stone of the building is needed

More recently we have seen the role of each Christian change. We have “professional Christians” who work in the church and perform many of the tasks needed to keep buildings and services on track. The responsibilities for the church and Kingdom have landed on a few of the select.

As the staff of churches has taken the responsibility, the general Christian has been given the opportunity to go about life without the concern of the church. Our church buildings have been filled with dead, rotting stones.

Each of us is called to be priests. Starting with immediate family, and stretching out from there, we are called to pastor others. The bride that Jesus is coming for will be caring, loving, and impacting the community. With everyone doing their part, the church will be reaching into the darkest corners of the cities and towns across the world.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have called me into Your church. You have selected me to be a living stone and integral member of Your church. Help me today by Your Holy Spirit to rise to the occasion and lead those around me for Your glory.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
