Daily Devotional – Our Storm Trooper

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Mark 4: 35-41. When storms come, and the winds howl around us, it is very easy to feel weak. It is not easy to see beyond the clouds and the raindrops and see the face of God and Father.

That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

41 They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!

If Jesus can rebuke the storm, then why do I still have it?

Undoubtedly the disciples in the boat with Jesus feared for their life. Many of them had a background in fishing and sailing. Most likely they had seen storms like this before and fought to stay alive.

Maybe though the disciples like many of us thought that since Jesus was in the boat, that it would only be easy sailing. Perhaps they were taken by surprise because the very real storm threatened not only themselves but Jesus too. “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” We hear the same argument very often these days in “How can God allow this?”

Like we discussed yesterday, this life is temporary. Everything that we accumulate and build will crumble and mean nothing in the end. I confidently climb upon an airplane each time knowing, that my life and fate lie in the hands of my Father and God. At His appointed time, I will draw my last breath. No matter the storm or the things around me that scare me, I release and place my faith in Jesus. He has my life!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You are the Almighty and all-knowing God. You can speak to the storm and calm it. No matter the storm, You are in control. Today I release my grip and know that it all rests in Your hands. You no only care, but You are working all things together perfectly.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
