Daily Devotional – Rejoice in God’s Protection

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 5: 1-12. I will rejoice all the days of my life for I am been blessed by the Holy God with His presence and goodness!

Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. For you are not a God who is pleased with wickedness; with you, evil people are not welcome. The arrogant cannot stand in your presence. You hate all who do wrong; you destroy those who tell lies. The bloodthirsty and deceitful you, Lord, detest. But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple.

Lead me, Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies— make your way straight before me. Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with malice. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongues they tell lies. 10 Declare them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall. Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you. 11 But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you. 12 Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.”

God’s protection is a reason for rejoicing?

God has called us to come before Him. He wants to have our attention and dialogue. In the same way that He came looking for Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. God is looking for us. He has certainly gotten our attention more recently!

One of my favorite comparisons in the bible is how God cares for His children. God is likened to a hen her care for her baby chicks. The way that the mother hen protects her babies under her wings and feathers. It is a great illustration of how God guards over His children. We have to draw near to Him, and He will keep us protected.

Today I rejoice not only for my protection from all that may wish to bring harm upon me. I rejoice too because God has protected me from His wrath and the reward of sin. I rejoice in His protection from the seen and unseen troubles in my life as He guides and leads me.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have given me so much to be thankful for. You have stepped up and stepped in the way of so much that could harm me. I rejoice in You, my protector and Lord.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
