Feel Confident

It’s hard for women over 50 to dress down and still feel confident – especially on the days when you’re working from home. Some women make it look effortless like they stepped out of a magazine cover shoot – even on their most relaxed days. So, how do they do it?

Many, many moons ago, my mother took me to a modeling school. The purpose behind it was not to become a model (so she said), but it was to learn how to groom myself, present myself, and ultimately, to have confidence in myself! I believe that a great outfit can give you a self-assured boost, but how you feel mentally, emotionally, and physically, can also play a role.

5 tips to Dress Comfortably and Still Feel Confident Working From Home:

1. Always Make Your Bed When You Get Up.

Keeping a routine and staying organized while working from home will keep you on track mentally. Keeping your routine with small things has been proven to reduce stress, increase productivity, and improve your mood.

2. Stretch, Workout, Go for a Walk… MOVE.

Stretching stimulates receptors in the nervous system that slow the production of stress hormones and exercising releases endorphins (i.e. happy hormones) which triggers positive feelings in your body. By taking the time to do stretch and/or exercise each morning before starting your workday, your hormones will give you a natural boost.

3. Take a Cold Shower.

A cold shower can work as a kind of gentle electroshock therapy sending electrical impulses to your brain. These impulses jolt your system to increase alertness, clarity, energy levels and release endorphins

4. Take Time to Style Your Hair.

Working from home allows you to try new styles you would not normally try, simply because no one will see them. Obviously, if you like a style you try, you have a new look to return to the office with (or maybe even join a video conference). A fresh look boosts self-esteem and builds confidence.

5. Put Your Lipstick On.

The quote from Elizabeth Taylor: “Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together”  comes to mind when I consider an attitude adjustment. Get that lipstick on, smile at yourself in the mirror, and tell yourself that you are amazing! Tell yourself enough times until you believe it!

Dressing down while working from home doesn’t mean you lose your self-esteem or self-worth, you can be confident and successful… even in jeans and a sweatshirt!
