Daily Devotional – Provider of All

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Genesis 22: 1-8. God is our provider, He provides love, leadership, and liberty. He provides for our needs and our surplus. He provides the bare essentials and in abundance in areas that we may wonder about.

Sometime later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!”

“Here I am,” he replied.

Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Early the next morning Abraham got up and loaded his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about. On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance. He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you.”

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.

Abraham named this place Jireh! God provided the solution that Abraham was trusting for. God provided the escape for his son, and this escape impacted the entire Israelite lineage. It is interesting that Abraham chose to focus on God’s provision. The provision of an escape.

Sometimes we may not view God as a provider, as hat He has provided is not what we think he ought to provide. Looking back over my life, God has provided in ways other than what I thought He needed to. I am always amazed at how His BIG picture view provided what He knew was needed.

It is fascinating that the All-Powerful God discussed yesterday is so involved in the intricate details of our individual lives. He provides the day to day needs of food on the table, to the life-defining purpose. We see reward and accomplishment in our lives because of God’s provision. Abraham saw God’s provision of a son before, and then the solution to save his son’s life. The question really is, how well do we trust in God’s provision?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that you are my provider. You have provided the salvation and way back to You. You have provided all of my needs and blessings. It is true that all good things come from You. Help me to trust You and Your provision, especially when I do not see it.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen
