Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Isaiah 9: 1-7. “Imagine all the people, living life in peace” words from the famous Beatles song written by John Lennon. Peace is something that we all strive for and seek. Whether it be “inner peace”, or peace with those around us, living on earth for most, seems to miss a level of peace.
“Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past, he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future, he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—
2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
3 You have enlarged the nation
and increased their joy;
they rejoice before you
as people rejoice at the harvest,
as warriors rejoice
when dividing the plunder.
4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat,
you have shattered
the yoke that burdens them,
the bar across their shoulders,
the rod of their oppressor.
5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.”
The kingdom of God is led by the “Prince of Peace”. If Jesus brings peace into all situations and rules in peace, why is it something that eludes us? God is peace, and to be in His presence is to be in an environment of pure bliss and tranquility.
The bible speaks of the peace, that the kingdom of God shall rule over as one that will be never-ending. A never-ending peace sounds wonderful when I look at the events of the world from today. As we discussed abiding in God last week, and Jesus’ joy being within us, surely His peace should be within us if we are abiding in the vine?
Jesus is a good prince over a great kingdom. It will be good to live in a kingdom of peace at some time, but let us bring God’s kingdom with us as we go about our daily lives. May God’s peace bring goodness to your world today!
Let’s Pray
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you that You are the Prince of peace. You have given me the precious gift of peace that so many strive all their lives for. As I strive to abide in You, give my world your peace!
In Jesus’ name, Amen
