Daily Devotional – Pillar 9 – Go As Jesus Came

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from John 3:16-21. Jesus came to earth to die because of the great love that the Father and He had for their creation. We have been instructed to go and make disciples because of our great love for those in our communities that are still lost.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19 This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.”

“Today’s Christians are relatively uninvolved in the culture, compared to believers who’ve gone before.Del Tackett

When I was a kid, my parents shielded me from everything. The devil was found in everything and watching a TV show or listening to a song would condemn my soul to hell. Thankfully, my well-intentioned parents protected me from many dangers in the world. I though can very easily see the comparable attitude by the church in general.

While we know that we should be disciplining the world for God, we have fallen into a rut. The average church-going Christian has left evangelism up to the pastor.  The church has even encouraged this telling us to just bring people to church next Sunday. It is as though we need to leave the conversions to the “professionals”. Perhaps we spend too much time in a church building these days?

On the contrary, Jesus instructed us each to live out and speak about our hope and joy. Our lives are the only testimony that people need to see what God is capable of. God has certainly saved me from many heartaches, pain, and destruction. My faithfulness to Him and living out a life following His laws have saved me. How well does your life speak to the world around you about God, and His greatness?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for sending us all out. You sent the Holy Spirit so that we could each have access to You and Your power individually. I lay my life down so that You can be glorified by all the actions, words, and activities. May others see a GREAT God in me.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
