Daily Devotional – Miracles of the New Testament 4

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 5:4-10. So often we have a perceived idea of how we want a situation to work out. We plan and hope for the plans to come together perfectly without any hitch.

“When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”

Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.”

When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus’ knees and said, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10 and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners.

Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.”

Follow the Lord and His direction.

I have often run ahead of God, only to call back to Him in prayer. Of God, please bless this thing that I am doing? I have then gone on to say how I will give Him the glory and tell everyone that He is the one that has made it all possible.

The problem with this picture is that it is not at all focused on God. This situation is full of selfishness and pride, and so is sinful. When God created us for fellowship and relationship, He never intended for us to run off and treat Him as a heavenly butler.

Let us take time and slow down to God’s pace. So many of our problems in life are self-inflicted because we never waited for our Father. God’s perfect ways are for our benefit and will bring us joy, peace, and fulfillment. Let us rest and trust in Him!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you that You have everything under control and within Your grasp. Forgive me for selfishly desiring my ways and dreams ahead of You and Your presence.

In Jesus’s Name,
Amen
