Daily Devotional – Live Like You’re Dying

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Peter 1: 3-10. Have you ever thought about what you would do if you knew that today would be your last day? Where would you go? What would you change? Who would you reach out to? What messes would you try to clean up?

His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

10 Therefore, my brothers and sisters,[a] make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Ambition for God’s kingdom

Each of us can likely come up with an extensive list of things we would change or try to accomplish if we knew our time on earth was limited. Rather than merely being a “bucket list” of activities, many of those things are probably those, which would make us a “better person” in many ways. They are things, which reflect selflessness, even if our typical behavior had been more selfish in nature.

Reflect on those things that you would include on such a list as you develop a “no regrets” mindset and lifestyle. Live a life filled with the love of Christ. I want to live a life that honors God. Live a life that reflects God’s goodness and you will live a life of no regrets.

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for the many blessings in my life, and I pray that those blessings continue and multiply. Give me the strength to honestly assess my life and identify those areas where change is needed to become more Christ-like in all areas of my life.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
