Daily Devotional – God’s Word Sustains Me

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Psalm 119: 97-104. How desperate are you for God’s word, forgiveness, and presence. It is easy to cry out to God when the world seems to be crashing down. Only allowing Jesus to sustain you will make it easier to foster your hunger for Him.

“Oh, how I love your law!
I meditate on it all day long.
98 Your commands are always with me
and make me wiser than my enemies.
99 I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.
100 I have more understanding than the elders,
for I obey your precepts.
101 I have kept my feet from every evil path
so that I might obey your word.
102 I have not departed from your laws,
for you yourself have taught me.
103 How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 I gain understanding from your precepts;
therefore I hate every wrong path.”

A Taste for God’s Presence

I personally have a taste for a great steak. There is nothing better for me than the perfectly cooked piece of steak. It is full of taste and hot, with juices flowing! Over the years I have fine-tuned my taste for the perfect steak. I have tasted poorly cooked steaks and very well cooked ones, and I certainly do not crave a poorly cooked steak.

In the same way, I have tasted God’s presence and sustaining word. I crave it! If I could choose between sitting down to read a novel or God’s word, I choose God’s word every time. I have tasted and seen that He is good and there is no desire to fill myself with anything less.

Have you fine-tuned your heart into God? This world will leave you dry and thirsty, so quench your thirst and souls needs in God’s presence and His word!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for Your word. It has been a light unto my path through my life and I know that I can not live without Your word. Today I focus on Your sustaining word and ask that You provide me with Your understanding as I read it.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
