Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 9:7-12. Like a magnet, those that are wise and open to instruction attract more wisdom. Those that are arrogant and self-righteous will detest and hate instruction, no matter who provides the information.
“Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.
8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.
9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.
10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For through wisdom[b] your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.”
Have you ever tried to impart wisdom and understanding to someone who just doesn’t want to listen? It can be beyond frustrating trying to explain to the person what seems like common knowledge. What is worse than the frustration is the typical treatment you receive from them. I have experienced what King Solomon is referring to here in Proverbs.
How do you react to others that try to give you instruction?
Constantly we see through the Proverbs the reward for wisdom. Long life, prosperity, and peace go hand in hand with wisdom. Cause and effect, with wisdom being the cause and root of all the effects that we long for.
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Jesus, for Your wisdom. As I learn more about You and who You are, I learn more about how fragile and insignificant I am. Provide me with Your wisdom so that I can live a life of honor and praise to You!
In Jesus Name,
Amen
