Daily Devotional – Home Away From Home

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Acts 2:1-6. The church congregated in each other’s homes. In the intimacy of each other’s homes, they waited on God while they encouraged and shared life together.

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken.

Living life together transparently

I believe that there is power in the coming together of people with the same purpose and goal. Like a tug-o-war team pulling the rope in the same direction, a group of people coming together with a common goal can overcome and achieve so much. The early church all came together with the singular purpose of seeing God move, and they got to see that.

I am considering the fractional aspect of the present-day church. We need to come together more frequently with a singular purpose. We can come together in a group of  10,000 or 10. Coming together with the singular purpose is what is most important. Focusing and concentrating our efforts with God’s will have us see God move.

God will move in a powerful way among the church, not just for the church, but for His purposes. God used the day of Pentecost to show off His might. He drew thousands of new believers to Himself by the miracle of that day.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that You have given us the church. You have instructed us as Your church to come together. Help me to be transparent with You and those around me. Letting go of my pride, I pray that You be glorified!

In Jesus Name,

Amen
