Daily Devotional – Forgiveness From His Riches

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Luke 7: 41-47. From the riches of God, and according to His wealth of grace, God has forgiven us! God has not forgiven us sparingly with what He could afford. God owns it all and so His grace is bountiful!

“Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii,[c] and the other fifty. 42 Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

43 Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”

“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.

44 Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. 45 You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. 46 You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. 47 Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

From Riches For Glory

One of my biggest concerns for the world that we live in these days is the people’s self-justification. In the hearts and minds of so many people lies the belief that they are “good”. Even if we believe that we need Jesus to provide the key to heaven, we have helped Him along the way. The belief of being a “good” person leads me to believe that I was 90% there and Jesus did the rest for me. He did that little extra that I was incapable of doing!

Someone with this belief according to Jesus’ own words will only love Him a little, and really not really at all. Someone who grasps that without God’s intervention and Jesus’ death, that they are completely dead and lost, has grasped the gospel. As an educated generation, we think that we know it all, but Jesus died because there was no other way.

It is all or nothing. Either Jesus died completely for your salvation, or you have no salvation from His actions. Consider and reflect today on how you have intervened by earning your salvation in your heart and mind.

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for Your death on the cross. I acknowledge that I am saved out of the vast riches of your grace. Your grace is sufficient to cover any sins that I could ever make, but it is only by your grace that I have been redeemed. I acknowledge Jesus and His death upon the cross as my redeeming sacrifice for salvation.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
