Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Mark 8:34-38. What success or lack thereof do you find your purpose and identity? It is easy to become overtaken by the success that we see during our time on this earth. No matter how you have fared, Jesus is our identity and everything!
“Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save their life[b] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 38 If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”
It is not all about you!
It is so easy to become consumed with our purpose and activities in life. I agree that God has created us for a purpose, nothing that He has created has no purpose, however so often the purpose becomes the god. While we strive and work towards the purpose, it is easy for the glory and fame to tickle our egos a little.

While we may start the journey on fire for God, the consistency and race are not over till the end. I once heard such a notable quote, “We never know the fruit of the child of God until their race is done.” So many who have set the course for God’s glory have become distracted over the years.
God has called us to deny ourselves and the temporary pleasures o this world. Let us constantly check our focus and ensure that it is laser-like. It needs to be focused on our savior and redeemer Jesus!
