Daily Devotional – Abiding and In Step

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Galatians 5:19-26. As we abide with God and His Holy Spirit, God imprints Himself on us. Through the Holy Spirit, God is able to engulf those that love Him with His protection and love.

“The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.”

Abiding in God means that His love flows through our veins.

The fruit of the Holy Spirit blossoms naturally as we spend time in the presence of God and in His word. In the same way that a tree goes because it is planted in the soil, we will only grow and bear fruit by abiding in God.

A tree pulled from the soil dies and whithers away, and we that do not abide in God will die in our sin too. We need to acknowledge that abiding in God is not a half-hearted effort. We need to admit that as necessary as air is to live, God’s presence and law in our lives are paramount to living too.

Let us consider if our lives bear the fruit of the spirit? Maybe the fruit that you will find resembles things other than the fruit of the Spirit. The only way that we will start to see that fruit is to constantly find ourselves covered by the Holy Spirits’ presence and being fed the word of God!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

I have always justified an excuse and reason to miss out on You and Your presence. From today, I set Your word and presence as a priority for my life. My life depends on receiving from You what I need!

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
