Daily Devotional – Experiencing the Joy of Life

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from James 1:2-8. It is part of the human condition to seek out comfort. Look around at the technology that is being created. Technology is built to make life easier!

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”

Joy comes from tragedy

God tests our perseverance and commitment. A sword is heated in the fire before being forged. The challenges and difficulties in life that we face are the catalysts to change. If life was easy and didn’t require any grit, how would we develop our faith in God?

During the darkest days of my life to date, I cried out to God. I didn’t understand why. At that time I couldn’t comprehend how my Father could let me stare failure in the face. Not for a glimpse or even a day, but it dragged on for years. Looking around, I realized that my only hope was to fall before my God and submit. I needed to stop, let go and roll away!

One thing for sure is that I have graduated from those challenges with certainty. I am certain of who God is and His ability to save. He is in control and no matter what, we can trust Him in every circumstance. God loves and gives generously to us all!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for your guidance. In all things and times of my life, You have been guiding and leading me. You have taught me and given me perseverance and peace through everything. Use me as a member of Your church to bring glory and honor to You.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
