Daily Devotional – Controlling Oneself

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Peter 1: 3-9Self-control is a fruit born from the spirit of God in our lives. This is because God exercises His own self-control at various times in the bible. There has been SO many times and occasions where His people have completely missed the mark. Although He would be justified in swatting them from the face of the earth, God continued to be patient and forgiving!

“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.”

Peter calls on us to take on God’s character of self-control. He calls us to participate in Gods “divine nature”.

What a great opportunity to receive from God His spirit, His nature, and His very being. As we abide in God He willingly transacts with us in a transfer of Himself to us. God has continued to persevere and chase after His creation with salvation. Exercising self-control and restraint over the generations, ultimately giving up the greatest sacrifice in His Son.

Do you lack self-control? Does God’s divine nature shine through your face into all your actions? Perhaps you have restricted His flow and transfer?

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that You have shown self-control all this time. Your perseverance has resulted in my salvation. The grace that I partake in has opened the way for your transfer Yourself and Your nature to me. I remove anything that is hindering You. Come with Your power and reign over me!

In Jesus’ name, Amen
