Daily Devotional – The Church Built On Jesus

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Ephesians 2: 14-22. Jesus was there in the beginning. He was the word that the foundations of the earth were built upon. Like the earth, the church is built upon Jesus, with Him as the cornerstone of the church!

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. 17 And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. 18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.

Christ Our Cornerstone

19 Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

No matter what will come at you, your foundation is your strength. Matthew 7:24-27 discusses the parable of the two men who built their houses. One built on the sandy land, the other, on a rock. The church is being built on Jesus by God through the Holy Spirit. He is the cornerstone and rock that the church is supposed to be built upon. No matter what, none of us are bigger than Jesus. Men will come and go, preachers will come and go, but through the generations, the name of Jesus and His church will stand firm.

Have you built your faith and life on the rock of Jesus? What does it mean to build and center your life around Jesus?

In whom is your faith as you wake up each morning? Do you get up planning your day as though you have the final say over your schedule and activities? We should come before God each morning, submissively giving our day to Him to see His leadership and miracles. If God was nudging you on the shoulder to meet someone or speak to someone, would you submit yourself and go over to that person? As we submit ourselves to God and His leadership, we can see God move in a mighty way!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for God that you have built this world upon Jesus and that you are continuing to build Your church upon Him too as the cornerstone. I submit myself to You and to Your leadership. Help me by Your Spirit to act and bring You to this world that so desperately needs You!

In Jesus name
