Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 10:4-12. Throughout the scripture, God calls us toward a just and righteous life. While a righteous life is pleasing to God, it also brings blessings to those living a righteous life.
‘Lazy hands make for poverty,
but diligent hands bring wealth.
5 He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son,
but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.
6 Blessings crown the head of the righteous,
but violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked.[a]
7 The name of the righteous is used in blessings,[b]
but the name of the wicked will rot.
9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely,
but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.
10 Whoever winks maliciously causes grief,
and a chattering fool comes to ruin.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life,
but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence.
Isn’t it such a great thing, to be a blessing to others? It brings such great joy for me to play just a smart part in God’s blessings for others. As we live a life filled with love and giving, our names will be affiliated with the blessings experienced by others.
Those that live a selfish and wicked life bring bitterness and a foul taste in the life of others. Hidden behind the flattering words are deceit and violence. Following these lovers of self and unrighteous will only lead to ruin.
Let us follow and seek the face of our Lord and God. As we live out a righteous life sacrificing our fleshly desires, God will crown us with blessings!
Dear Father,
Thank you that You reward those that live according to Your laws and commands. You have said that You will give to those that ask, so today I ask that You help me and strengthen me to live a righteous life.
Amen
