Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 11:8-14. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
“The righteous person is rescued from trouble,
and it falls on the wicked instead.
9 With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbors,
but through knowledge the righteous escape.
10 When the righteous prosper, the city rejoices;
when the wicked perish, there are shouts of joy.
11 Through the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
but by the mouth of the wicked it is destroyed.
12 Whoever derides their neighbor has no sense,
but the one who has understanding holds their tongue.
13 A gossip betrays a confidence,
but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
14 For lack of guidance a nation falls,
but victory is won through many advisers.”
A gossip betrays the confidence of others
The spoken word is full of power. After all, all of heaven and earth were created by the spoken word of God Almighty. A righteous person uses their words wisely, speaking in order to build up and encourage those around them.
The foolish can not keep a secret or the confidence of others. As quickly as you share your heart and concerns they have to share the information. Though they may justify their gossip with concern and prayer, as they spill the beans, they destroy those that have trusted them.
Let us, the children of God be strongholds of trust and refuge. As we prosper in our faithfulness and righteousness, others will rejoice in our counsel and wisdom. Do not give the enemy a chance or foothold into your life today.
Let’s Pray
Dear Father,
Thank you for Your words of wisdom and guidance. Help me as I seek You and chase after You, to be a beacon of hope and faith in the world around me.
Amen
