Daily Devotional – Being Like a god?

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Genesis 3:21-24. I have often said that the main sin that causes us to stumble and fall short of God’s law is our desire to be god!

“Adam[c] named his wife Eve,[d] because she would become the mother of all the living.

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.”

A god, unlike the true God!

With Eve and Adam partaking of the fruit of the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil”, they had become aware of themselves and the evil that lurked. For the first time, they were afraid and aware of their nudity. Their shame created a canyon between themselves and their creator.

With the awareness of what is right and wrong, man has been banished from the place where God dwelt with His presence. As God said, the pursuit of life has become the voyage of all men and women.

When we follow the word of God, we see how God is the only source of life and truth. His love for us had Him break the rules so that we would have access to life for all eternity.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that Jesus came to pay the price for all of us. His death on the cross paid for our access to life and Your presence.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
