Daily Devotional – A Worthwhile Sacrifice

Daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Genesis 4:1-7. May my worship and sacrifice be sweet and pleasing to my Lord. It is a sacrifice of my best for the one who deserves more than my best.

“Adam[a] made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain.[b] She said, “With the help of the Lord I have brought forth[c] a man.” Later she gave birth to his brother Abel.

Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast.

Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Was it the sacrifice that was not accepted?

Cain and Abel brought differing sacrifices before God. They differed in the gift, but I have to believe in the attitude too. The first of the “Be-attitudes” is to approach God with humility.

When God approached Cain about it, He offered the opportunity to repent and deal with his anger. God desires that we bring our best and everything to Him. He deserves more than our leftovers and passing thoughts, He deserves more than we could ever give!

When we follow the word of God, we see understand that God is greater and mightier than all the earth and universe combined. Let us intentionally come before God today with our very best and give Him all that we have!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You gave up everything in Jesus’ death on the cross. Forgive me for not always giving You my best. Today, I summon all that I have and lay it at Your feet hoping that it is a pleasing and sweet sacrifice to You.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
