Daily Devotional – A Worthy and Valid Sacrifice

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 21:23-27. Would you feel good leaving a transaction getting less than the value that you paid? Likewise, God was left short-changed for generations, not receiving the true value of salvation.

“Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”

24 Jesus replied, “I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. 25 John’s baptism—where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or of human origin?”

They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Then why didn’t you believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘Of human origin’—we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet.”

27 So they answered Jesus, “We don’t know.”

Then he said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

You are worth 1 Jesus!

There are many that think that obtaining salvation can be found in the “good works” that they can perform. They create a scale tilted to their advantage, justifying their desire to feel safe and redeemed.

Others think that the sacrifice of others paid on our behalf will be sufficient to quench the dues due for sin. None of these circumstances have the pure, spotless, and blameless sacrifice required under the law. The only sacrifice that would appease the Almighty is the sacrifice made by Himself.

When we follow the word of God, we see how Jesus is the only one worthy to pay the debt of our sins. The only salvation accepted is the blood and broken body of the lamb of God.

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

Thank you Father that You gave Jesus as the sacrifice for us. Your sacrifice and pain are for our benefit and I will proclaim today my complete allegiance to You and Your Kingdom!

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen
