Daily Devotional – A Fresh Start

daily devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Matthew 16:13-20. Jesus was sent to earth to die and sacrifice His life for the salvation of God’s creation. Due to the sacrifice of Jesus, His reward is being the cornerstone of the church that God would build for the future of the earth.

“When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.”

A fresh move by God’s Spirit

We all love the idea of a clean slate and fresh start. If we are going to receive a redemption that offers a reprieve from the consequences of yesterday, we would jump to it. While New Year’s day is just another day, it offers us a fresh start.

We serve the God of redemption. He is constantly calling unto us, drawing us closer, and offering us the clean slate that we crave. Though we may strive and find ourselves weary from our religious activities, God offers simple salvation.

Our redeemer lives and He stands before the door of our hearts knocking. He will knock till we hear and welcome Him in.

In this new year, may God speak His word and intentions to you. May you know that as truly as Jesus came to save us unto Himself, that He will start fresh with you this new year. Let’s take advantage of God’s continuous new mercies and stand fully washed of all sin and yesterday’s wrongdoings. Ready for a fresh new start for the glory of God!

Let’s Pray

Dear Father,

You are the creators of all things, and most of all, you are the creator of my redemption. Today I thank you for my salvation and freedom from my past. I submit my future to You, so that You may use it for Your purposes.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
