Carova Beach – North Carolina

Located just north of Corolla is Carova Beach. Carova Beach is an 11 mile stretch of beach with beautiful vacation homes placed amongst the sand dunes. If you are staying in Carova, or simply want to check out the area, make sure that you arrive in a 4 wheel drive automobile as the area is otherwise inaccessible. If you enjoy spending your time by the coast appreciating the natural beauty of the area, then Carova Beach is the place for you. Since the area is unpaved, commercialization in this area of the Outer Banks is extremely limited. All you will see when spending a day on the beach in Carova is beautiful sand dunes and beautiful houses. Below are the best activities to enjoy while spending your vacation on Carova Beach.

Enjoy a Beach Picnic

Since you will be able to drive your 4 wheel drive vehicle out on the beach, that means bringing all of your picnic necessities with you is as easy as putting them into you truck or SUV. There is nothing better than enjoying a meal with your toes in the sand and your eyes looking across the Atlantic Ocean to the horizon. There is a variety of Outer Banks vacation rentals that will put you within very short driving distance to this scenic beach day destination.

Look for the Wild Horses

Wild Spanish Mustangs have been roaming the beaches of Corolla for decades. Seeing these beautiful animals in their natural habitat is breathtaking. Break up your day on the beach by looking for hoof prints that may lead you to the wild horses! If you are lucky enough to find the Spanish Mustangs, make sure you do not get too close to them or disturb them. Simply appreciate the experience that you will remember for years to come!

Search for Shells

Since the beaches of Carova are much less walked than many other areas of the Outer Banks, you will be sure to find wonderful sea shells and even sea glass (if you have a good eye). Roaming the area’s empty beaches with no one in sight is a unique and therapeutic experience that will make you wonder why you haven’t visited this part of the beach more often.

Ride the Waves

Finding a stretch of beach to yourself in Carova is as easy as driving your 4×4 vehicle just a bit further down the beach than the rest. That means you will not have to worry about others when enjoying your favorite watersport. Surfing, stand up paddle boarding, and kayaking can all be enjoyed in Carova given the correct ocean conditions. When heading out to the beach for the day, don’t forget to toss your board or kayak in the truck!

No matter what you choose to do when visiting Carova beach, you simply cannot go wrong. The peace and tranquility offered by the area will make any activity a top notch experience.
