Lets talk about a familiar situation: A few hours after lunch, a few hours before dinner, and hunger is back rearing its ugly head. A chores of stomach grumblings become increasingly audible to those around you. What do you do?
For most, we’ll grab the nearest edible and stuff our chew-hole until the hunger is defeated. This is not a habit you need to be ashamed of if you choose the right mid-day snack.
By snacking wisely you can ensure a more healthy diet overall with fewer and better calories by end of the day. You will also be able to greatly reduce the common afternoon fatigue brought on by fluctuations in your blood sugar after lunch.
Here are 5 examples of great mid day snacks that will keep you feeling healthy and energetic until dinner.
Cantaloupe – the king of the “Melon” family. It is rich in Vitamins C and A, packs loads of Potassium, and is high in Protein. This all means that cantaloupes are super healthy and will help support your metabolism, activating enzymes that break down carbohydrates into usable fuel for your cells.
Carrots – a common healthy snack that can be eaten at any time, both raw or cooked. It is known to help improve vision and make you look younger. Just an added bonus to curing your hunger.
Tomatoes – High in Vitamin C, low in calories and totally fat free.
Banana – The easiest of all mid-day snacks. Bananas have evolved to be so darn easy to eat that you’d be crazy not to have these within arm’s reach when at work. They help your heart, your head, and just about all your other parts too.
Air-popped Popcorn – a snack with a bad reputation as it is often associated with over-buttered over-priced sludge served at movie theaters. But a bowl of plain air-popped popcorn makes a healthy snack which will surely satisfy any hunger attack.
