It’s Time to Stop Believing that…it is wrong to be a dreamer

By Charlotte D. Hunt-

“Recently, some plans I had hoped to come through failed within a 24 hour period. I was crushed. So much of what I had hoped for and relied on was based on my plan coming into fruition. Somehow in the turn and tide of the universe, the world did not sway to my organization, rules, knowhow and control. How dare they?

A day that started out as hopeful and exciting ended up as sad, miserable and lonely. In my pain, I did what other people who teach about leadership and following dreams did…I cried, threw a tantrum, felt sorry for myself with the addition of being 49 years old, got into bed to wash away my sorrows in the escape of a Criminal Minds marathon on television and ate my favorite foods of chicken fingers, French fries, and a lemonade with a pint of Häagen-Dazs® ice cream as a chaser.

fall scents for your home

I would love to tell you that the bullets and arrows of setbacks and situations that seem to move desires away from dreams does not penetrate my cape of dreaming madly, pursuing wildly and trusting completely, but it does.

I am not writing this to discourage you but to encourage you to know that part of the deal in dreaming madly is understanding the cost. It is understanding that there will be times, like I had, when you want to chuck it all and say, “Forget it, I want to be like everybody else and just be normal!”

Dreaming madly, is understanding that there will be times when you will doubt yourself and believe you have lost your senses. You will believe everyone who has ever told you to grow up, be normal and stop dreaming, “get a life”, “do what everybody else is doing”, get a real job”, “why can’t you be like everybody else”, “isn’t it time to put your dream aside and come into the real world?” and everything else said over what you know in your heart. You will feel like you are the biggest failure on earth because others seem to be DOING while you are just dreaming and trusting. You will be in a path of a few viewing a field of many because you have chosen the path less taken. Yes, it will be hard.

In my time of hurt and frustration, I found myself yelling over and over again, “I just want to be normal and stop being a dreamer, stop wanting more!” Even as I write that statement out, it seems crazy. Not crazy that I would want to stop being a dreamer because I understand the pain of hoping for something that may never happen. What is crazy in hindsight is that I would desire to stop wanting more or to be normal. Now that is really crazy!

There are those who have dreams then move on. Personally, I’m not talking to those people. My heart is for, I am talking to and this book is for those who have been called to be more. I am talking to those who are discontented living day after day with being normal, just being okay or walking through their lives making it.

I’m talking to and this book is for those who may not know the way but know as sure as day turns into night that they have been created for more, their stories have been formed for a purpose and are to be used toward a life that matters in the lives around us, and know the best is yet to come. Those are the ones that have been called out to walk the path less taken regardless of their past or present situation. Those are the ones, regardless of how they feel about themselves, the obstacles they perceive are in the way or the inabilities they think they have are called to be more. Those are the ones who, like Jeremiah, have a different type of fire shut up in their bones that will change the world forever and need, during this time of confusion and lack of understanding, to persevere, stand and stay the course.”
