It may seem too early to shop for a coat, but it’ll be worth it to shop now and have plenty of choices from the top trends and be prepared when those artic-like winds start blowing.
Admit it, last year around this time you were probably headed to work wearing a waist skimming, lightweight jacket and thinking, “my it’s chilly this morning” so you decide it’s time to switch to a pumpkin spice latte to warm you up. Then by lunchtime, the sun is blazing and you’re sweating. Speed forward to a week later and Halloween night arrives and you’ve got on that skimpy little costume to wear to the party. You pull on that same lightweight jacket from the week prior and that’s when the wind picks up and that jacket suddenly feels paper thin. You had planned to walk to the party, but now you’re hailing a cab or asking your boyfriend to drop you off at the door while he looks for a parking space.
That’s where we come in with 21 of the top picks for coats this fall.

Belted
Fit and Flare Wool Coat, $250.60 Armani Exchange
I’ll be excited to bust out my winter wear once temperatures finally drop here in LA; one of my favorites pieces being coats! I love the latest colors, trends and patterns this season, but I still love a classic. This fit and flare shape does a body good when you’re layering to keep warm. I look sleek with tights and thigh high boots for a night out or even straight leg jeans and cut out booties. The neutral color choice in sand is one that works with every outfit and a piece I know I’ll reuse year after year. To spice things up, color can come into play with a patterned scarf and a deep red lipcolor.

Colorblock Trench
Khaki Windbreaker, $46 Ahai Shopping
Cold and dreary weather can get me down, so I like a coat with some color and a bold contrast to pick me up. This navy-khaki coloblock combination has a chic look and a flattering fit, made with a cotton blend that doesn’t feel heavy. I also love the belts at the waist and cuffs, not to mention the golden crest buttons that give it a bit of a military look.

Car Coat
Nine West Wool-Blend Boucle Car Coat, $137.19 Macy’s
I love with this boucle colorblock coat from Nine West. The grey tweed with the black is awesome! It will go with anything! And the price, equally awesome. I just can’t handle it. It’s a total must have!
