Keeping notes benefits you on several levels. For one thing, you can easily keep a daily routine that lays out all your workouts for the day. You should stick to one or two muscle groups per day so by the end of the week you worked out your whole body effectively. Keeping notes also helps you track how much weight you can handle on any given exercise, as opposed to committing everything to memory.

Don’t Forget To Reward Yourself

Nearly every store on earth now has a rewards program, and for good reason: it keeps you coming back. Your reward to yourself could be anything, but try to keep the reward reasonable; that is, do not make it antithetical to your fitness gains. If you have a successful day at the gym, don’t think that gives you free reign to eat an entire cake or buy something expensive. After all, you will experience a natural reward thanks to post-workout endorphins and other neurotransmitters as a biological consequence of having exercised.

Have The Right Clothes

Having the appropriate clothes while working out are an absolute necessity. You don’t want to be in the gym working out in jeans and dress shoes for a number of reasons. Choose clothing that is breathable and lightweight to maximize comfort. You also want to make sure that you have the right shoes for exercising. This will make the workout more comfortable and can also decrease the likelihood of injury. Some tried-and-true brands for workout shoes include Nike or Adidas.

Mix It Up

If you keep the same workouts without any variation, both your mind and your muscles can become bored. This sometimes manifests itself in the form of a “plateau”, or perhaps just plain indifference at the gym. Think about ways that you can mix up your routine to keep things fresh and keep your muscles on alert.

Drop sets are a great way to get some extra benefit from your workout by squeezing more energy out of your muscles. This method involves doing as many reps as you can with a certain weight and then doing more with less weight.

Another way to mix things up involves combining two different workout sets without any rest in between. This is a strategy employed by some actors who are looking to get ripped for their next role.

Intermittent Fasting

Otherwise referred to as “time-restricted feeding”, intermittent fasting can work in conjunction with resistance exercise to optimize benefits and reduce body fat. If you workout right after you ate a large meal, your body does not have a reason to tap into its fat stores since it already has the energy it needs from the food. On the other hand, if you workout while in a fasted state, this places pressure on your body to burn the energy it already has stored within it in the form of body fat.

Workout With A Friend

Bringing a friend along on your fitness journey instills a sense of responsibility for both of you to keep up. Skipping the gym when you have a partner is much easier when you don’t have another person counting on you to go with them. In this way both of you benefit. In addition, another set of eyes can help make sure both of you have proper form when performing exercises. This helps prevent injury and ensures you are getting the most out of each movement. As if that weren’t enough, having a partner in the gym can help spot you when doing certain lifts. While you shouldn’t try to push your maximum benchpress too hard if lifting alone, having a friend spot you can be a safer alternative.
