Spa and Travel Review: Hotel Terra, Teton Village Wyoming

Hotel Terra

By Michele McIntyre –

Can “green” still be luxurious? You bet! Here’s my review of my recent 3-night stay at the ultra eco-conscious Hotel Terra in Teton Village, Wyoming.

The Location: Hotel Terra is located in Teton Village at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (JHMR), just steps away from the big red aerial tram and several other hotels at every price point. The location is picture perfect. Literally, in our backyard, we have access to all the shops, restaurants and attractions of the entire Teton Village. A pleasant dose of civilization is available in the nearby town of Jackson, WY.

The Vibe: Contemporary western with cowboy chic touches, family-friendly yet sophisticated. Hotel Terra blends in seamlessly with the surroundings at JHMR.

The Room: We’re staying in room 359, a well-equipped 1-bedroom suite with a large wraparound balcony and memorable views of the ski area and surrounding mountain ranges. Our suite has everything we need to spread out and be more than comfortable including a compact but full kitchen with stainless steel appliances and more than basic kitchen supplies.

Our suite is decorated in a soothing color palette of spices – cinnamon, paprika, cocoa – and a dash of chartreuse green as an accent. Our third floor suite is just steps away from the fitness center and outdoor infinity pool on the terrace overlooking JHMR. The pool, while small, was perhaps my favorite spot to spend in the late afternoon sun after an active day in the Jackson area.

We are surrounded in comfortable luxury: handmade goat milk soap from Chivas, plenty of Coyuchi towels in our two full bathrooms, rain showerheads and upscale furnishings and appliances. But of course what Hotel Terra is best known for is its tremendous list of eco-conscious initiatives: recycled construction materials, natural mattresses, organic cotton bed linens, refillable stainless steel containers for bath amenities and in-room recycling just to name a few.

Cool factor: Electric boot dryers in guest room closets, self-cleaning air tub in the master bathroom, funky western touches like the cow-print ottoman in our guest room and in some of the public areas.

The Spa: Chill Spa’s Decadence Organic Blueberry Bliss ($135, 50 minutes) was just the hydration my parched skin needed. My therapist, Candace, applied the sugar scrub, offered a neck massage during the hydrating wrap and finished with an application of whipped soufflé. Eminence products are always a treat and their blueberry body wrap treatment products are a touch of decadence. The plush spa lounge has mountain views, a fireplace, warm beverages and cozy contemporary-style furnishings for relaxing before or after treatments.

Plan to spend some time soaking up the sun and scenery in the rooftop hot tub. There are 6 treatment rooms.

Family-friendly: There are always interesting things going on in Teton Village. The tram runs continuously throughout the day and it’s always an engineering wonder when it docks at the station. There is a small playground for young children. My son (10) runs and splashes through the fountain that sits just outside the back door of Hotel Terra. I sit outside and soak up the sun and the vibe of this vibrant ski area turned summer mountain village.
