Let the SONshine in…

By Laurie L. Webb –

We get so excited at the end of winter when the sun begins shining and it starts warming up, but do we get as enthusiastic when we see the “Son”shine?

John 8:12, “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world.  He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life”.

If we follow Jesus, we should have that light shining forth like the noonday sun. Like a good friend of mine taught me, “You can’t be a beacon if your light don’t shine”! We are called to be a light in this otherwise dark world.

Ephesians 5:8 says “For you were once darkness but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”

When we came believers, we became carriers of God’s light. We are to walk as children of light. We are to live the life before others that makes them want what we have. We should have a joy that passes all understanding, a peace that can’t be described, and a testimony on our lips about what God has done for us. The world is looking for an answer to the overwhelming darkness of the world. We live in a time where everywhere you look, the darkness is encroaching upon our light. We can’t allow that to happen. We must be determined to let our light shine more brightly now than ever. People in the USA are having difficulties that they have never faced. A new generation is being exposed to recession, job loss, financial difficulties, health care uncertainties, children who are being destroyed by gangs, drugs, and sex…All because the prince of darkness is quickly swallowing this country. We, as Christians, can’t let this happen. It is time we take a stand!

Matthew 5:14-16, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”

I have been singing “This little light of mine…” for 3 days. You remember the lyrics…”hide it under a bushel…NO!, I’m gonna let it shine…let it shine, let it shine, let it shine…” But isn’t that just what we, as a body, have done? We’ve allowed our light to be hidden. We haven’t been the beacon that the world is looking for! The world is looking for a safe place to land. They are looking for that light leading them to safety in an otherwise tumultuous sea of attacks.

I say we can be that – if we join together and make the decision to lay our little differences aside and stand as a strong, victorious Body of Christ and be that city that is set on a hill that cannot be hidden!

John 12:36, 46, “While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.” “I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness”.

From this day on, when you see the SON shining…be it through another person, through the Word of God, or simply the look of Joy on another believer’s face…show your enthusiasm! Let the Son know it is He you worship. Show others the reason for the light that lives in you and shines from you! Let your Beacon shine!

…let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
