Resveratrol-Will it Help Your Skin Glow?

Just What Exactly Is Resveratrol?

Wikipedia defines Resveratrol (3,5,4′-trihydroxy-trans-stilbene) as a stilbenoid, a type of natural phenol, and a phytoalexin produced naturally by several plants when under attack by pathogens such as bacteria or fungi.

“Under attack”?

Lori Shemek of DLS Healthworks describes it much better, in my opinion. This from her article “The Top Three Anti-Aging Supplements To Reverse, Stop And Prevent Aging”

“Resveratrol is a polyphenol (antioxidant) that is found in the skin of grapes. It is produced naturally by some plants as a response to an environmental stressor such as an infection or fungus to the plant. Resveratrol has demonstrated to create efficient intracellular repair by providing significant antioxidant protection to the cells. This is important because if our cells are intact they behave healthy and young – thus we age younger.”

Lori also says “Resveratrol has many health benefits from slowing down the aging process to possibly preventing serious diseases such as heart disease, reducing or preventing high blood pressure and inflamation. Resveratrol may also help with weight loss.”

MayoClinic.com says that antioxidants called polyphenols (resveratrol) may help protect the lining of the blood vessels of your heart, reducing ‘bad’ cholesterol and could also be linked to a reduced risk of inflamation and blood clotting, both of which can lead to heart disease.

Where Does Resveratrol Come From?

Resveratrol comes from the skin of grapes, blueberries, cranberries, some green teas and peanuts, of all things.

How much should I take?

The recommended dosage is 250 mg. per day. Or, you could drink copious amounts of red wine. (Kidding!)

What About Absorption?

Now, the trick is getting the supplements to be absorbed by your body, so as not to be throwing money down the drain. When shopping for Resveratrol supplements, look for Trans-Resveratrolas, it is preferred due to its bioavailability.

So, what do we have so far?
■Antioxidant protection for a younger you?
■Disease prevention?
■Weight loss?

Sounds good to me!

Keep in mind, this is not a soup to nuts (I need to look up the history of that cliche…’soup to nuts’ I kinda like it though) bit on Resveratrol. I am not a scientist, nor a nutritionist. Just a mature woman, like you, who wants to live fully and beautifully. You take it from here.
