Low T can Affect Relationships

By Tammy Mahan –

Men have fragile egos especially in the bedroom. Unfortunately, as a man ages his testosterone hormone begins to drop and this can lead to erectile dysfunction. This in return can affect the relationship.

However, problems in the bedroom are not the only effects that can take a toll on a relationship. Low T can also cause the man to display signs of male menopause. Now as women, we should be understanding because we have our own issues with menopause usually by age 50.

Although, most of the time a pre menopausal or menopausal woman is not as understanding as one might think. It is not something we are proud of but it is a fact life. It is bad enough we are dealing with our own symptoms and trying to get through this seemingly never ending process in our life.

Now, toss our man with low t in to the mixture and it can be a recipe for disaster. The signs and symptoms of low t can include:

  • Erectile dysfunction /low or lack of sex drive
  • Abnormal growths in the breast tissue
  • Fatigue
  • Hot flashes

Any of those sound familiar ladies. Low t can start in a man’s 30’s and as he ages the amount of testosterone continues to drop. It usually, does not become evident or an issue until the 30’s. However, some several medical conditions can cause a drop in testosterone.

  • Infections (that do not go away- or that the man is unaware of, many STD’s go undetected for years – that is not to say he has an STD it is just an example.
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Injury to the testicles
  • Diabetes
  • Liver disease
  • Kidney disease
  • Hormone disorders
  • Obesity
  • Testicular cancer
  • Cancer treatments
  • The normal aging process

Let us look at the normal aging process. If a boy enters puberty earlier than expected – just as a female begins her menstrual cycle earlier than the average girl does, then you would expect that a man’s testosterone would start to drop at a lower age.

Just like men have to have patience and compassion for the menopausal woman in their life, women have to accept the fact that men go through a similar process.

A relationship can be affected in several ways by low t. However, there are hormone replacement therapy options if it gets too bad. The friction between a man and a woman during this time can be difficult to deal with, therapy may be an option.

You do not necessarily need to see a marriage/couple’s counselor as a direct result of the low t and the “issues” and hurt feelings both of you may have been harboring for several years. This will not help with the low t, however it can allow some of the hard feelings you have both tucked away in the closet to be set free.

You can clear the air and accept the newer version of your relationship. The version where the marriage does not revolve around sex but the things you have in common. You can enjoy being together or even discover things about one another you did not know. If you are lucky, the two of you will find new things to do and new adventures awaiting you!
