Five Fall Fashion Trends That You Can Use Right Now To Update Your Fall Capsule Wardrobe

By Jeanine Byers Hoag –

As any dedicated shopper knows, autumn means more than beautiful leaves covering the ground, warm apple cider and colder temps. It also means a whole new season of clothes to choose from and trends worth considering as you begin to update your fall capsule wardrobe.

Here are my favorite new fall trends and you can use them immediately…

fall scents for your home

Oversized Statement Jackets – “Exaggerated proportions and wide-set shoulders crank up the volume on outerwear,” according to the September issue of Marie Claire. Although that issue refers to coats and capes and other outerwear, this trend is my favorite because other trend-watchers have referred to this trend for jackets and cardigans.

And I have seen it in stores and catalogs. It’s the boyfriend jacket with a little more structure and some added pizzazz!

Matchstick Pants – Skinny pants have some added class this season in a slightly wider but still tapered design. These pants provide a nice match for the broader jackets, so that your figure won’t get lost in the outfit.

Brightly-Colored Pants – Even jeans are getting the neon treatment. This is a trend that continues, rather than beginning, this season and that means that almost everywhere you look, you will be able to find ankle pants and jeans in your favorite bright colors.

Layers and Long Boots – I love layering pieces in a sort of natural, casual style. If you do, too, then this is a season you will love. What is often paired with the layers is leggings and boots that come up to the knee, but if that seems a little too hip for the room, you can do the same thing with flats.

Red Lipstick – This deep lipstick color comes in several shades this season, and the red-orange version is the one I like best. But most of the versions are crimson or burgundy and applied with a very liberal hand. So this trend is not for the faint of heart!

How to Wear the Trends

(1) Only choose the colors that match your best palette. If your coloring is very light, then burgundy lipstick is going to overwhelm you. And those neon-bright jeans might, too.

(2) Keep your body type in mind. If you are pear-shaped, then your hips are wider than your shoulders, and the oversized jacket with skinny pants might be a look that helps you create balance. But if the reverse is true, you could end up looking like a linebacker!
