Daily Devotional – You’re Not Alone

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from 2 Kings 6: 17-20. The closer I draw to God, the more I realize how self-reliant I have been. I have for too long tried to fight my battles alone in my own strength and make headway with my own intellect and efforts.

And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

18 As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, “Strike this army with blindness.” So he struck them with blindness, as Elisha had asked.

19 Elisha told them, “This is not the road and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will lead you to the man you are looking for.” And he led them to Samaria.

20 After they entered the city, Elisha said, “Lord, open the eyes of these men so they can see.” Then the Lord opened their eyes and they looked, and there they were, inside Samaria.

You are not alone! We have an army of angels beside and behind us. But how often do we consider this? How often do you stop fighting long enough to open your eyes to what is around you? Elijah stopped long enough to show his servant Elisha, and think about what his eyes saw.

Today, stop! Stop for long enough o open your eyes toward heaven. Consider how Jesus said that  “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11: 13

We need to take our eyes off of the physical temporary world. We need to acknowledge that God is all-powerful and able to take on more than we are. Jesus overcame all the challenges and temptations of this world to give us victory. We don’t achieve the victory on our own, but we see victory because we allow Him the freedom to do what He can!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that you have overcome this world. You have conquered even sin and death. Today I slow down and draw closer to You, show me why I should be trusting You more Show me why I should stop fighting things on my own.

In Jesus name
Amen
