Daily Devotional – Wisdom Values a Reputation

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 22:1-9. Being recognized and respected based on your esteemed name and your character is enviable. You will be trusted and with others’ lives and their actions.

“A good name is more desirable than great riches;
    to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
Rich and poor have this in common:
    The Lord is the Maker of them all.
The prudent see danger and take refuge,
    but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
Humility is the fear of the Lord;
    its wages are riches and honor and life.
In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls,
    but those who would preserve their life stay far from them.
Start children off on the way they should go,
    and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
The rich rule over the poor,
    and the borrower is slave to the lender.
Whoever sows injustice reaps calamity,
    and the rod they wield in fury will be broken.
The generous will themselves be blessed,
    for they share their food with the poor.”

Did your parents train you?

The rich will rule over the poor because they will always be in debt to them. It is for this reason that we should avoid debt at all costs. In order for us to crawl out from under the thumb of the oppressive society, we need to be free. The way to have freedom is to owe no man.

We will always owe our lives to Jesus. He is a very loving, compassionate, and just creditor. Jesus calls us to take on His burdens and yokes so that He can carry ours. Acknowledging your debt to Jesus is humility and will preserve your life.

fall scents for your home

Let us then be generous because our debt towards Jesus requires us to love generously to all those around us. Train up those around you to live generous lives unto the Lord and His glory!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, for taking upon Yourself my burdens and concerns. I trade them for Yours! Help me to live my life in a manner to not owe anyone money, but to freely love and care for them.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
