Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 5:18-23. It is all too easy to become tired and distracted by the common experiences of day to day life. What is unknown can be more attractive and enticing than the known and familiar.
“May your fountain be blessed,
and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
19 A loving doe, a graceful deer—
may her breasts satisfy you always,
may you ever be intoxicated with her love.
20 Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife?
Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman?
We all enjoy and thrive on something new and fresh. A blossoming romantic relationship is intoxicating, brushing us off of our feet. Being distracted from our commitments and covenants though is a dangerous path to walk down. God warns us in Proverbs 5 to not walk too close to the dangers that get our hearts beating a little faster.
A revelation that I experienced some time ago was the reality of God’s presence. It is easy to consider God in heaven high above the clouds. Far removed from our daily struggles and triumphs. Perhaps a God so far removed doesn’t see everything and doesn’t care about the details.
Rather God by His spirit roams the face of the earth. He is everywhere and in everything. When you pray, God stands right before you absorbing your prayers and praise. God is also right there while you consider the thoughts and ideas of sin. Ask God to help you avoid these snares before you get too close!
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you, Jesus, that You are everywhere at all times. Thank you that the tiniest details and every thought concern You. Protect me from the snares that attract my flesh so that I can live a life that brings You glory and honor.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
