Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Proverbs 4:18-27. Let us be careful not to stray off the narrow path of righteousness. The pathway to hell is wide and full of travelers, we need to steadfastly continue towards the prize.

“The path of the righteous is like the morning sun,
    shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
19 But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness;
    they do not know what makes them stumble.

20 My son, pay attention to what I say;
    turn your ear to my words.
21 Do not let them out of your sight,
    keep them within your heart;
22 for they are life to those who find them
    and health to one’s whole body.
23 Above all else, guard your heart,
    for everything you do flows from it.
24 Keep your mouth free of perversity;
    keep corrupt talk far from your lips.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead;
    fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the[c] paths for your feet
    and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;
    keep your foot from evil.”

Pay attention, your life depends on it

John recalled how Jesus was the word of God at the start of His Gospel, John 1:1-4. In Proverbs God has warned us to keep His word in our hearts and before our eyes. The correlation between Jesus being the word and God calling us to focus on His word can not be a coincidence!

Jesus by His death on the cross has given us freedom and life. As we accept Jesus as our savior and He starts to infiltrate our sinful heart, the love of God will flow from it. God reminds us that it is so important what fills our hearts because every we do comes from the depths of our hearts.

Let us be careful where we place our feet and on what we look upon. It is so easy for us to give up on hope and faith during the challenges of life. Rather maintain your eyes firmly fixed on Jesus, forgetting all the world around you!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, Jesus, that You are the word of God in flesh. Your life on this earth shows us the character of God and the word of God in action. You have always acted out of love, and as I focus on You, may You flow from my heart.

In Jesus Name,

Amen
