Daily Devotional – The Way Maker

Daily Devotional

Our scripture for the Daily Devotional today is taken from Isaiah 40: 1-11. Jesus came to be the way maker. He came to make a way for us to be restored to our creator. Without His sacrifice and death on the cross, we would not be able to partake in God’s plan. Jesus created the way back to God!

“Comfort, comfort my people,
    says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
    and proclaim to her
that her hard service has been completed,
    that her sin has been paid for,
that she has received from the Lord’s hand
    double for all her sins.

A voice of one calling:
“In the wilderness prepare
    the way for the Lord[a];
make straight in the desert
    a highway for our God.[b]
Every valley shall be raised up,
    every mountain and hill made low;
the rough ground shall become level,
    the rugged places a plain.
And the glory of the Lord will be revealed,
    and all people will see it together.

fall scents for your home

For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

6 A voice says, “Cry out.”

    And I said, “What shall I cry?”

“All people are like grass,
    and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
    because the breath of the Lord blows on them.
    Surely the people are grass.
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
    but the word of our God endures forever.”

You who bring good news to Zion,
    go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good news to Jerusalem,[c]
    lift up your voice with a shout,
lift it up, do not be afraid;
    say to the towns of Judah,
    “Here is your God!”
10 See, the Sovereign Lord comes with power,
    and he rules with a mighty arm.
See, his reward is with him,
    and his recompense accompanies him.
11 He tends his flock like a shepherd:
    He gathers the lambs in his arms
and carries them close to his heart;
    he gently leads those that have young.”

Looking for our way

The 40th chapter of Isaiah is very beautiful. It is a poem about the time and coming of Christ. It includes an exhortation to recognize Jesus as the likeness and true image of Almighty God. This prophecy like John the Baptist shouts out from the wilderness, about Jesus, God with us!

The prophecy and John the Baptist told of the Waymaker that was coming to restore the intended plan. Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice was coming to make the way possible. Jesus came so that God could bring us close to Him. Like a shepherd gathering His flock!

In order for Jesus to repair the way for us to God, we need to make way for Him. We need to open our hearts and submit ourselves to His rule, allowing Him to do His will. God’s word is true and trustworthy. He fulfilled every prophecy that the prophets foretold for Him. Know that God will lead you and guide you, with plans that will benefit you and give you a future!

Let’s Pray

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you, God, that you sent Jesus to be our way back to You. Not only as a sacrifice but as an example of Your words and truth. He came as a testimony to Your word enduring forever and to point us to Your truth. Help me today as I submit myself to Your way.

In Jesus name
Amen
